The Bibby family is working in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation to promote an important cause, Strokes for Heart and Stroke. Mike Bibby, along with paddling partners Michael Vandepol and Bond Strand are embarking on a 370 km canoe trip from Mattawa to Ottawa along the Ottawa River, to raise funds and awareness for the Heart and Stroke Foundation's life saving research and health promotion.

The Strokes for Heart and Stoke paddling trip will commence on July 9th, 2012 from Mattawa, Ontario and will arrive in Ottawa at Champlain Rapids approximately three weeks later.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is very dear to the Bibby family. Mike’s mother Patricia is a stroke survivor. His father Gerry had an emergency quadruple by-pass and valve replacement surgery, and Mike’s brother Geoff had pericarditis. Mike has not only dealt with heart disease with both of his parents and brother, but Mike himself experienced a heart attack of the unusual kind (myo-pericarditis) on Valentine's Day in 2009 at the age of 34. He also faced another battle of the heart when his son Tyler was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect and other valve related complications at 3 months of age. During the summer of 2010, just two days before Tyler's fourth birthday, he successfully underwent the open heart surgery needed to repair these defects at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). It is for these reasons that The Bibby family has committed themselves to raising money to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
